After nearly two decades of collaboration, Greg Natale and Designer Rugs unveil their seventh collection together. Cruda, meaning “raw” in Italian, embodies a duality of structure and softness. At once refined and organic, the collection draws inspiration from the asymmetry of Brutalism and the geometry of Italian Rationalism. Featuring six original designs in flattering neutrals, Cruda offers a unique interpretation of these modern influences.

The direction for the Cruda collection was sparked by a custom rug design that utilised high-low pile techniques. The depth and emotion lent by subtle surface variation evoked the Brutalist philosphy of decorating through texture rather than ornamentation. From distressed surfaces to the jagged planes of monumental architecture, Cruda celebrates beauty in irregularity and imperfection.

Through the soft language of hand-knotted wool, stark, uncompromising design finds new life in texture and tactility, revealing an unexpected warmth within its raw forms. Spanning bold composisitons defined by geometric abstraction to amorphous forms in mineral tones, Cruda channels the gravitas of concrete and stone into hand-crafted rugs. Varied loop techniques and shifts in pile height lend a sculptural quality to each rug. Each subtle transition creates a layered effect that evokes the the graphic language of industrial textures.
